Chile has embraced the Bordeaux variety Carmenère, and Viña Maipo has really done it justice here. The Rapel Valley offers exceptional terroir for the grape with its loam, clay and sandy soils. Expect a rich, full-bodied red with leather, black fruit, mint and earth notes. Enjoy this wine with rare steak or pasta in a meat sauce.

This full bodied Carmenere has notes of oak, vanilla, coconut, prune, coffee, smoke and earth. It was smooth and fruitfully sweet, with refined tannins (decant for 30 min) and a medium to long finish. Impression: NICE to BEAUTIFUL – too bad it's a screw top. Tasted Jan/10
