Maleta Estate Winery
In 2004, accomplished home winemaker and winemaking author Daniel Pambianchi bought the Maleta property, which enjoys a warm microclimate on the edge of St. David’s Bench. The operation focuses on Bordeaux reds and old-vine Riesling and Gamay, but Pambianchi’s interest in sparkling wine is also bearing fruit, winning a 2010 Cuvée Gold for Maleta’s 2007 Old Vines Dry Sparkling Wine. The 2006 sparkling won Ontario Wine Awards Gold in 2009. The range includes the moderately priced, humorously labelled Grape Brain series and the more upscale View brand, as well as the premium red Meritage label. A popular tour package includes a tasting of four wines, including sparkling wine, paired with local and international cheeses.
