A slightly more dense and tannic, highly extracted version of the "Animo" cabernet from Michael Mondavi, from the highest blocks on volcanic rock atop Atlas Peak. This is so tightly wound and impenetrable at the moment it's hard to get a full read on the wine. It unquestionably has the tight structure of volcanic mountain wines from Napa to an almost savage degree, and I'd love to revisit this in 5-8 years or so to see where this heads. I suspect it will shed the tannic cloak and allow more scorched rock minerality to show. An exceptional wine in any case, bold, dense, imposing. Tasted January 2015.
