With this beautifully-packaged Washington Syrah, there's a huge disconnect between nose and palate. Opening with lovely aromas of blueberry and blackberry, stewed fruit suggesting a radiating sweetness, it follows with characteristic varietal notes of meat and black pepper, though the main flavour is dried fruit. Indeed, while those other notes are muted, with little freshness to the flavour, it comes across like a mix of prune, raisin, and grape juice leading to some unpleasant bitterness on the finish. There's enough here to like, but the package within the package is sadly disjointed.
