This has a cool, reserved mineral nose of well integrated cedar, herbs, dried currants and cranberry, with the same...

A nice fleshy substantial chianti with more aggressive tannins than expected and notes of coffee and chocolate....

I liked this quite a bit. Nose is a bit tight but there a hint of some complexity in there. Medium-full body, great balance of sweet and savoury: Dense fruit, some earthy/leathery/mushroomy flavours, anise, herbs (bay leaf?). Moderate tannin, good sour finish. An easy drinking but fairy complex and very well balanced wine. For my tastes, a perfect all-purpose, all-rounder.

Authentic Chianti Classico and better. Going Riserva truly makes a difference. Decant 30 to 60 minutes for optimal enjoyment but not much more than that. Tasted May 2014.

Dry intense and structured. walnut, mahogany, cherry-chestnut flavours. Light-medium bodied and relatively high in acid...like most Chianti Classico wines.

I wanted to like this wine - a Chianti Classico Riserva for $20, sounds great, no? But I never quite warmed up to it. The flavours hint at Sangiovese but seem a touch muddled and not all together cohesive. Has some firm tannin and high acidity (not out of place in Chiants, of course). A good wine, just left me a bit cold. Tasted March 2014.
