The winemaking traditions in the Ehrhart family, makers of Saint-Rémy, go all the way back to 1725. A brilliant yellow, with charming aromas of honeyed peach and baking spice. The aromas echo in the flavours, alongside notes of citrus, lychee, apricot and Turkish delight. Lots of sweet, ripe fruit in this medium-bodied Gewurz; it’s delicate, balanced, and crisp, with a very pretty finish. Try it with fried chicken or a lightly spiced curry dish. The North of 9 tasting group sampled five different ‘Gewurtz’ last week at our monthly tasting session and unfortunately this Alsace label was unavailable at that time. Wonderful fruit – peach, lychee, and some grapefruit; sweeter than most with great balance and lovely honey aftertaste. Nice on its own or with an Asian dish. I really enjoyed this! This wine met the mouth with a gush of rosewater that quickly transformed into lychee fruit. It was a tad fat as compared to a typical Alsace gewurtz. This disappointment may be in part explained by its non-typical amount of sweetness; it was not dry to Alsacian standards and acidity was muted. What to pair with it? We concluded it was good on its own as an apertif.
