This is a warm and inviting pinot, in its prime and dangerously drinkable. It apparently had 12 months in French oak, but the tannins have now softened nicely, leaving attractive cherry/berry fruit, a touch of cola and earthy funk, and a compelling spiciness. In a nation producing loads of good pinot noir from various areas in the North and South Islands, there seems to be something special about Martinborough.
