Wynns Coonawarra Estate The Siding Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, Coonawarra Bottle
Wynns Coonawarra Estate The Siding Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, Coonawarra
South Australia, Australia
$24.95

Now that Wynns black label cab has (justifiably) risen in price (now $45), we now have this Siding Cab from Wynns filling in the mid-$20 price point. And a stellar red it is. Fresh, balance, complex with such well-integrated oak that one hardly notices. Sneaky tannin comes along on the long finish. Certainly fine to drink now, but should age for several years....in fact, hold off 12-18 months if you can. Really excellent. Tasted July 2024. I have never been to Australia...one day perhaps.

Domaine De Carobelle Vacqueyras 2021, A.P.
Rhône, France
$23.25

Solid southern Rhone from the Vacqueyras region. Just missing some of the complexity and wildness I associate with this region. For near(er) term consumption (in the next couple of years). Tasted Jan 2025.

La Nerthe Les Cassagnes Côtes Du Rhône Villages 2020, Ap Bottle
La Nerthe Les Cassagnes Côtes Du Rhône Villages 2020, Ap
Rhône, France
$25.95

Organic GSM blend, in a stupidly heavy bottle. Medium-bodied, with more subtle flavour profile than expected, this is still a delicious fairly complex wine with light tannin and crisp acidity. 15% abv goes nearly unnoticed. For near term consumption. Tasted Dec 2023.

Clos De Luz Massal 1945 Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, Almahue, Do Valle Del Rapel
Rapel Valley, Chile
$22.95

Darkly fruited with a notable herbal note running through it. Good balance, with little interference from overuse of oak. Lingering finish. Lacking just a bit of complexity to push it over 90pts, but delicious wine. Drinking nicely, should hold a few years without concern. Tasted Feb 2025.

Bel Echo Pinot Noir By Clos Henri 2012 Bottle
Bel Echo Pinot Noir By Clos Henri 2012
Marlborough, New Zealand
$22.95

This pinot walks a fine line between new and old world. Riper than most Burgundian pinot, with bright ripe red cherry and cranberry notes, backed by hints of smokiness. There is even a hint of sweetness, but it is all balanced by fine acidity, a good structure and an earthiness common to a red Burg. Fine depth and complexity here. This represents very good value for the quality delivered. Amazingly, there is still a good amount available at several Vintages as of Nov 1 2014.

Quinta Do Vale Meao Meandro 2008 Bottle
Quinta Do Vale Meao Meandro 2008
Douro, Portugal
$24.95

This is simply an excellent wine, again demonstrating how far Portuguese table wines have come in the last 15 years or so. Quite floral on the nose, this wine is full-bodied, with deep red fruits, herbs and spice and a pleasant tartness on the long finish. Oak is so well-integrated as to be indistinguishable. Drinking now, but should another 5 years or so. More than worthy of its $23 price tag. tasted August 2013.

Summers Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Calistoga, Napa Valley Bottle
Summers Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Calistoga, Napa Valley
California, Usa
$34.95

A very nicely ripened and balanced Napa cab. No resorting to heavy wood treatment, over-extraction or residual sweetness to impress. This is the kind of cabernet that California can do so well in the right hands. Lovely to drink now, can hold 5 more years. In the context of premium Cali wine, this represents fine value. Tasted Jan 2016.

Not much to add to the other reviews. This is a superb and balanced Cabernet. Bordeaux can only dream to produce a wine at this quality for under $30. Decant if drinking now, or better hold for a few more years. Tasted April 2016.

Giacosa Fratelli Bussia Barolo 2009 Bottle
Giacosa Fratelli Bussia Barolo 2009
Piedmont, Italy
$39.95

Typically pale Barolo here, with tart sour cherry flavours, hints of faded flowers and truffles. Complex and still a bit tight, finish with crisp tannin and brisk acidity. I really think that this still needs 2-3 years to hit its peak but lovely now. Tasted Dec 2017.
