Domaine Rolet Père Et Fils Arbois Trousseau 2014, Jura
Jura, France$34.04
What a beauty. Finesse defines it. This is a light, delicate yet complex and multilayered delicious wine. There's a smoky quality in the palate that comes through in harmony with cherries and subtle acidity, setting the stage for a lengthy lingering peppery feel. This wine really showcases the personality in one of Jura's very own varietals.
Vino Lauria Frappato Scoglitti 2016, Igp Terre Siciliane
Sicily, Italy$28.39
Thanks to the Wine Exchange I had the opportunity to taste this Sicilian frappato. It is certainly different and outside my comfort zone (not quite agree with the Pinot Noir comparison made by reviewers), but of undoubted layered complexity, red fruit forward and dry finish. Lots to like in this one, happy to have tasted it.
Stratus Red 2010, VQA Niagara On The Lake, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$44.20
Sometimes reviewers (not naming anyone) are a tad generous in their assessment of local wines. With this one, it would be hard to exaggerate. The Stratus Red (2010) stands up to any red from anywhere. No condescending required. This is optimum stuff!
Le Vieux Pin Syrah Cuvée Violette 2016, BC VQA Okanagan Valley
British Columbia, Canada$34.59
Another "wow"!
This has all the black fruit beauty of a Northern Rhone Syrah, and it's appropriately named Violette.
Paired beautifully with a roasted leg of lamb covered with a crust of almonds and Moroccan inspired spices.
