Cesari Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico 2015

Medium ruby with some bricking on the rim. Medium-intensity aromas of fig, sweet balsamic, oak, freshly opened dried oregano, and cocoa. Molasses after 90 mins.

Flavours of dried fruit, fig, dried herbs, chocolate, minerals, and sweet balsamic. Medium plus acidity with soft tannins and a long finish.

Château Peyros Vieilles Vignes Madiran 2016, Ac Madiran

Earthy aromas after the initial pop and pour, then perfume, cardamom, plum, cherry, oak, leather and bell peppers. Palate was the same with hint of dusty tannins that was tamed by the acidity. Almost had a mineral like finish at the end but the cardamom bumps it out of the way at the last second. But with some time in the glass the cardamom also gets bumped, but this time by cassis. This wine is drinking well now, good food wine.

Jim Barry Single Vineyard The Farm Cabernet/Malbec 2018, Clare Valley, South Australia

Deep purple wine with beautiful perfume aromas; rose water and saffron. Bold black fruits, bacon fat, black pepper, cinnamon, and dried herbs.

On the palate this wine is juicy, with a tiny hint of dusty tannins but still very soft with medium plus acidity. Flavors of blackberry, oak, vanilla, dried chili pepper, and dried herbs. Medium finish.

La Vite Lucente 2018, Igt Toscana

Complex wine when it comes to the smell. Lovely tobacco with violet, dried herbs, cured meat, iron, and raspberry. Flavors are black cherry, balsamic, menthol, and dried herbs. High mouth-drying tannins and medium acidity. After two hours of decanting and the tannins didn't let up, but close to 3 it started just a tad so food is a must, or let it sleep more. - Tasted July 2023

Muga Reserva 2016, Doca Rioja

Medium plus aromas of violet, leather, blackberry, plum, balsamic vinegar, dried herbs, and smoke. A juicy entry of ripe plum, blackberry, orange, prune, and menthol leads to a long finish. Over time, some earthy notes, raspberry, and cassis emerge. Fantastic with Chicken Tagine. Aug 2025

Poplar Grove Cabernet Franc 2017, Okanagan Valley

The wine exudes a lovely fragrance of violet and ripe blackberry, with subtle notes of strawberry and potting soil. On the palate, the blackberry flavours are rich and accompanied by hints of bell pepper, roasted dried herbs, chili pepper, malt, and licorice. The wine boasts medium-minus acidity and a slightly dry, long finish, making it an excellent value. - June 2024

The last time I had this was in 2022.

Lots of perfume on the nose along with potting soil, raspberry, dried herbs, anise, and prune.

Juicy cranberry, black cherry, licorice, balsamic, minerals and pepper. Medium plus acidity with medium tannins and finish. Give these 60 minutes for the tannins to settle down. - Feb 2024

Jean Max Roger Cuvée La Grange Dîmière Sancerre Rouge 2015, Ac

Pinot Noir from the Loire Valley, Sancerre to be exact.

A wine with some bottle age and it surprised me with its ripe fresh red fruit of cherry raspberry and cranberry. Also had a hint of orange zest.

The acid was low with a tiny bit of chalk tannins. Lovely pinot that can rival Burgundy and for a great price. Tasted October 2022

Château Coufran 2010, A.C. Haut Médoc

Aged Bordeaux at a good value, 14 years so let's see what we have here. Tons of sediment in the bottle, aromas of plum, red chili peppers, prune, and some earthy aromas.

Juicy red plum, leather, coffee, molasses, balsamic, and orange peel. I do enjoy these dominant Left Bank Merlot's.- Jan 2024

Perfume-scented wine along with fresh potting soil, iron, vanilla, cherry, and cured meat. A bit watery with light fruits of cherry, tomato, leather, and dried herbs. Chalk tannins with medium plus acidity and finish. -Jan 2024
