One of my perennial favourite inexpensive syrahs from the south of France shows very lifted peppery, smoked meat,...

That, at $16, a Midi Syrah can throw this much smoked meat, bacon and genuine roasted porcine goodness into a bottle,...

Always a favourite of mine. This one is pure Syrah with loads of smoked meat, black olive, dark floral (violet), and black fruit. Medium-bodied with medium+ acidity and tannins, this one is extremely well put together. Such an incredible value year after year. Tasted December 2014

I'm 100% with Mr. Lawrason on this one. What an elegant wine at such an affordable price. Certainly not for those love the big brawny Napa Cabs. This Syrah has such lovely herbal notes with lots of cherry flavour. Goes well with so much

Dark and brooding on the nose, there's more meat, smoke and grilled Portobello mushrooms than pepper (though it's there). All that overlays dark blackberries and plums, with a nice spicy garrigue and moss. There's a lot going on in the nose here.

On the palate, surprisingly nimble after an extra year in bottle. Chalky but smoothing tannins, cured meats on the finish. The 13.5%ABV makes this a moderate-weight wine as well; lots of flavour without the alcohol heft, but perfectly in balance.

Stunning at the price: great value. But decidedly a style not for everyone.

Tasted October 2015.

I'm with DL. Huge bang for the buck if you're into a peppery briny meaty Syrah. Depth and balance are decent. Finish is muted.

A French wine under a screw cap! Nose is very similar to the 2011, albeit with a little more finesse, and stronger smoked meat and pepper notes. Palate follows but fruit dissipates quickly leaving a slightly astringent, tannic finish.

I re tasted this wine a day later and I still can't understand the high reviews...Maybe mine got bottle shock or something wrong with it.

This one tasted over-ripe with very little acidity and tannins. Maybe it was a bad bottle?
