This Grenache cocktail, Shiraz and Mourvedre was less dapper and bursting with fruit when tasted in August 2014, but...

This Aussie GSM sits somewhat thin and translucent in the glass with a garnet hue and watery edges. It's light to medium on the palate but is fairly complex offering red and dark fruit, licorice, pepper, spice, smoke, tar, raw meat and molasses (Mourvedre represent'n). Juicy acidity, soft but persistent tannins and very good length. Alcohol heat is notable on the late palate. Great value and with the LCBO's discount for de-listing, a steal at $9.95. Stock up if you can find it. Dec. 2014.

Peppery and savory characters are at the forefront of both the aromas and pallet, with some red fruit pulling up the rear. Like other d'arenberg wines that I have tasted it is more restrained and "real" tasting then some other Australian counterparts. If you are looking for ripe fruit and residual sugar this would not be the way to go. At $14 it is very solid in terms of QPR.

Raspberry. floral, and pepper notes on the nose. It has lots of ripe red fruit, firm tannin, and is medium-bodied. Good value.

Certainly not the super-ripe, off- dry fruit bomb that turns me off many Aussie reds. In fact, this GSM blend is at once ripe and not ripe. Along with some pleasant ripe, red fruit is very prevalent herbeceous notes, much like those found in cool climate reds or from highly cropped grapes. This is not particularly pleasant to my taste and, as such, I cannot recommend this wine. Tasted April 2014.

For the price, just an excellent wine. I had to back to the store and buy five more bottles (now finished three of them). So if you want an impressive wine at a low cost the stump jump is for you. It is a fun, fruitful wine that is tasty yet smooth with a good after taste. Enjoy... tasted December 2014
