This is a collaboration between Rust En Vrede of South Africa and Silver Oak of California. It is a typically massive, sinewy, dense syrah loaded with matchstick, chocolate, mincemeat pie, prune, olive complexity. It's sweet and dense yet buoyed by very good acidity, fine still young tannin. Stays well focused, with some minerality. Score: 91 (David Lawrason, www.WineAlign.com, Jan 2013)

An opaque dark ruby wine. This syrah displays a smokey, tarry, spicy, meaty character. Yet it's a feminine wine with floral notes, chocolate and almost stewed red and dark fruits (she's showing her age). Refined tannins, nicely integrated oak and very approachable (in a "come hither" sort of way). A nice cross between typical S.A. shiraz and Rhone syrah. 90++
