Mature in appearance, but still very much alive. As noted by JS and DL, this Xinomarvro calls to mind Nebbiolo. Notes of slight tart cherry fruit, dried fruit, and earth. Firmly structured and no trace of oak. An only average finish betrays its modest price point, but this is a delicious red for only $12.95. I only wish I had bought a few bottles. Tasted Feb 2013.
Often compared to Italy’s Nebbiolo grape used for the making of Barolo wines, this vintage is still very young and the tannins could use some more time to settle down. It is an excellent example of a noteworthy, promising bottling that can be had for a song now and will reward 2-5yrs. of cellaring. With flavours of vanilla, cocoa, red berry and cherries, it’s both tart and earthy
which is fairly typical of nutty Naoussa style wines. Try serving with grilled meats, heavier casseroles, porcini risotto and hard cheeses.
Hitting well above it's weight, a real value. Dried red fruit, potpouri, herbal notes, touch of oak, with the complexity and tannic strucutre to improve over a few years.
Tasted October 2013.
