This wine has is of the ‘forest’ character of Pinot Noir: Fennel and liquorice, wet earth, truffle, and then come the fruit notes of cassis and black cherry. The tannins are smooth and the acidity is restrained, not overly tart. Excellent length.

This wine has aged quite gracefully, and is remarkably full and brawny for a Niagara pinot noir, with plenty of fruit and wood spice - the winemaker obviously leveraged this warmer vintage for all it was worth. In a blind tasting, I'd probably peg it as coming from New Zealand - in fact, I tasted it along aside a NZ pinot (Julicher 99 Rows), and the resemblance was quite striking. The ethereal delicacy of good cool-climate pinot is lacking here, but nonetheless, this is an impressive effort.

Medium to light garnet in colour with a medium+ intense nose.

A very earthy Pinot, may not be for everyone.

Positives: The wine features some cedar, lots of mushrooms, cranberry, pomegranate, sour cherry and wet earth. Medium body and tannins with good acidity and a long length.

Negatives: A touch too tart Drink now on its own or pair it with veal Provence.
