Made in an opulent, full-throttle style, the estate's 2003 L'Errante presents a very dark color and an array of blackberries, cassis, licorice, minerals and sweet toasted oak. Today it comes across as youthful, vibrant and massively endowed, with tannins that finish a bit rough on the close. L'Errante is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc/Cabernet Sauvignon. About 80% of the fruit was air-dried for 20-30 days prior to undergoing fermentation, while the remaining 20% was harvested and then vinified with conventional methods. The wines were aged separately in 100% new oak, then were racked and the final blend was made, after which the wine was moved back into oak for an additional 16 months of aging prior to bottling. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2018. Score - 91. (Antonio Galloni, www.erobertparker.com, Oct. 2007)
