Deep red. Pure, spicy, smoky aromas of red cherry, blackberry and dried herbs, with a hint of tomato paste. Supple and sweet, with nicely delineated flavors of succulent black fruits complicated by caper and rosemary; quite ripe and rich in texture without coming across as jammy. This has an earthier component to its flavors than the other single-vineyard wines made by Gulfi, and finishes with a strong whiplash of iodiney minerality. From a 40-year-old vineyard (previously known as San Lorenzj) on iron-rich, sandy soil, less than a quarter-mile from the sea. This specific marine microclimate and sandy soil account for the typical notes of caper, iodine and herbs that are almost always found in this wine. Score - 92.
