El Coto de Rioja is celebrating its
40th vintage this year. Their winemaking
approach is an interesting
confluence of history and forwardthinking,
leveraging modern techniques
and technologies to craft traditionally
styled, classic Rioja wines. Their
premium Coto de Imaz Gran Reserva
is 100% Tempranillo grown in the
Rioja Alta.
The 1985 vintage in Rioja was relatively
cool, leading to wines of elegance
and subtlety. This wine is fully evolved,
showing characteristics of sandstone,
forest floor, leather and dried red berry
fruit. A lovely journey 25 years into
Rioja’s past.
