Sandeman Vau Vintage Port 2000, Doc Douro
Port
Portugal
$19.95 (251090)
The dense purple-colored, seriously-structured 2000 Vau Vintage reveals outstanding ripeness in addition to abundant amounts of black currant, cassis, and mineral characteristics as well as firm tannin in the finish. Fuller-bodied, richer, and significantly more impressive than its sibling, it will drink well between 2007-2020. Score: 90 (Robert Parker Jr., www.erobertparker.com, Oct. 2002)

Think of this as faux fur or leather; it's not exactly the real thing, but it is certainly not far off the mark - Vintage Port with a modern twist and perhaps a little more user friendly. This is vintage port for those who don't have the patience to wait 15-20 years. Blackberries, plums, cassis, and a touch of spice; you really can't go wrong here. Decant before serving to soften any hard edges and enjoy it with a rich dessert.
Opaque blood red in colour with medium+ intensity on the nose.
Positives: Not a complex Port but very smooth showing dry fig fruit, raisin, plum, licorice & tamarin.
Negatives: None
Drink now & pair it with blue cheese or almonds & dark chocolate.

Out of 5 stars, I rated this wine: 4
Agree with Edward and Tyler; not a 'true' Vintage feel but close enough for evenings not demanding the big stuff.
Better than some LBV's, and a good value.
