The cooperative on the Island of Samos, the only commercial producer, makes wonderful sweet wines using a variety of methods. This example is produced from sun-dried grapes aged for about 5 years in cask to develop intense and concentrated raisined fruit character, with loads of buckwheat honey, toffee, cappuccino and dried fig. The palate is sweet and unctuous, with a silky, tongue-caressing texture and long, intense caramel/butterscotch finish. This can be enjoyed all on its own, lightly chilled, as you contemplate this most ancient style of wine and marvel at the incredible value. Drink now and over the next decade. Score - 92.
