This Meritage is an elegant and tasty blend of 50% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Franc, 12% Malbec and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep ruby in colour, it brims with complex aromas of black plum, raspberry, cocoa, currants, and earthy notes. These are joined on the palate by intriguing tobacco spice, and a touch of minerality. Dry and medium full-bodied with a juicy, lengthy finish, the wine is very well composed and shows fine balance. Though well suited to fine dining, it will also kick things up a notch or two around the barbecue alongside sizzling steaks with sautéed mushrooms. (VINTAGES panel, April 2009)

The first time I tasted this, I could not believe it had come out of Niagara. I would even go so far as to say it is the best Bordeaux style to come out of this area.

We had it with juicy steaks that had been marinating in garlic, worcestershire, salt, pepper and olive oil for about 12 hours, roasted potatoes and a fresh green salad. Simply amazing.

The experience at Hidden Bench Winery was equally amazing and I highly recommend a visit.

After many recommendations I finally bought this wine today. Although out of my normal snack bracket it IS a wonderful wine to savour and enjoy. Has a depth and complexity and length not usually associated with Ontario reds.
