This is a fascinating experiment with Barbera in BC's Okanagan Valley, sporting many of the hallmarks of the variety, such as medium-deep ruby/garnet colour, gentle tannins and racy acidity. On the nose, aromas of stewed berries, plum, and smoked meat emerge, along with plenty of intriguing coffee notes. Dry and quite intense, this medium full-bodied, long-finishing wine is an ideal partner for slow-cooked beef dishes with a side of wild mushroom risotto. (VINTAGES panel, Sept. 2009)
