Clos du Val has always had a French styling in its cabernet due to the Bordeaux roots of owner Bernard Portet. This...

tried this at the tasting booth.

A nice wine for sure...there's some interesting complexity in there that will probably show itself even more in a few years but nevertheless it's not worth the price they want for it. Your money is better spent elsewhere.

In a few years this should be very good indeed. but still...

as far as I'm concerned any bottle over $50 should make you say "oh wow...". If it can't do that, what's the point??

This should be a $40 bottle of wine. (and indeed IS south of the border)

The Clos du Val SLD finish third at the North of 9 California Cab tasting.
This was good, but I expected much more. An old-world cab by comparison to so many others from the region. A deep rich red colour and an earthiness greet you initially; mushroom and truffle - the fruit is there but it`s rather subdued. I enjoyed this but I was looking for something rounder on the palate. Decant 2-3 hrs before serving. (Tasted June 2010, Northof9finewine)
