Baigorri's purple-colored 2005 Reserva (100% Tempranillo) was barrel-fermented and aged for 18 months in new French oak. Pain grille, graphite, Asian spices, incense, violets, and assorted black fruits inform the nose of a dense, powerful, layered, structured wine. In the glass it is rich, youthful, and in need of 5-7 years of additional cellaring. This bruiser of a Rioja will perform optimally from 2016 to 2025. Score - 94.
