"The 2009 Château Pineraie Cahors has intense aromas of red curant, blackberry, pine and subtle leather on the nose and pomegranate, red currant and dates on the palate. It is a light to medium bodied, extra-dry, integrated to aged wine; with good acidity, refined tannins (decant for 30 min) and a medium to long finish. It is food friendly, drink now – 2018. My impression: NICE, 88-89 pts. Tasted Nov/13.

Always a fan of Cahors and this this one didn't disappoint, especially at the price. This is extremely dark, almost black and opaque in the glass. On the nose, there's lots of dark black fruit along with some floral (violet),meaty, and spice notes, though the oak isn't prominent. On the palate, it's quite full bodied with big tannins and decent acidity to add some freshness. Not the kind of wine most people want to sit and sip, though it would pair beautiful with a grilled steak or leg of lamb. Neat to compare with Argentine examples of malbec. Toss a few in the cellar. Tasted Sept 2013
