Planets De Prior Pons 2008, Doq Priorat
Red Blend
Priorat, Spain
$22.95 (314559)
This excellent Priorat is a five grape blend with grenache in the post position at 40%. It has quite generous ripe plummy, nutty and tarry flavours, with a touch of meatiness. Its medium full bodied, fairly soft and juicy. Very good concentration and warmth with some Priorat minerality on the finish. Best 2013 to 2018. Score: 90 (David Lawrason, www.WineAlign.com, Jan 2013)

The 2008 Planets De Prior Pons is composed of 40% Cariñena, 40% Garnacha, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 5% Syrah and was aged for 12 months in French and American oak. It is a medium bodied, integrated wine with intense aromas of black currant, blackberry, figs, prune, dark chocolate, leather, oak and vanilla. It has a good fruit/tannin/acidity balance, grippy tannins (decant for 1 hour) and a long, smooth and silky finish. Food friendly, but sipper in my view; drink now-2023+. My impression: BEAUTIFUL, 92 pts - recommended buy/amazing value/grab by the case. Tasted Jan/13.

Most ruby-red, embattled by Spanish garriga, a kiss of the salty sea and mountain air. Peppery, red licorice balanced on an eave of canted length." @clickvinus
Wonderful balance between fruit flavours, savoury flavours, wood, tannins, acidity. Dark fruits with some earthy mushroom/truffle like flavours, licorice and spicy oak notes. Really very nice.
New world, with old world character....
The nose is impressive , providing fascinating whiffs of brown sugar, lavender, blueberry pie and cola. It's strong, structured & finishes with hits of chocolate/ truffle and stony minerality.
