The 2009 Banfi Rosso Di Montalcino is a light bodied wine, with faint aromas of integrated red berries, violets and cedar. Upon opening it is unaromatic and has austere tannins that are not supported by body, but if you decant it for more than an hour (more like 2 hours), the tannins recede and the wine becomes smoother and more enjoyable. As the fruit is light, cellaring for longer term is not advisable, drink now-2015. My impression: NOTHING SPECIAL upon opening, NICE 2 hours after decanting, 87 pts. This is not a food friendly wine, but it does become enjoyable as a sipper after decanting. I imagine this was made to be a quite decent table wine, the $23 price tag however does not reflect that - $10-12 range would be more reasonable. Tasted May/12.
