Kaiken has become something of poster-child for modern malbec, and this vintage rolls easily into that image of rich,...

Ruby coloured in the glass. Unabashed fruit scents hit the nose with herbs and fireplace ash. Palate picks up fruit forward black fruits that linger through the middle of a decent length, then leather, spice, and a hot finish reflecting the high alcohol. A little too hot even when chilled 15 minutes. Tannins are on the softer side. Would suit smokey BBQ fare with plenty of sauce.

Definite aroma of bacon on the second or third whiff. Initial aroma of cedar or wood. Taste is very forward, some length but alcohol is a little hot on the tongue. Chilled it's a bit better.

Ripe on the bush black berry and blue berry fruit. Definite herbal lift builds character within the wine. Tannins and acidity are balanced with aromas and flavours. Had this with mushrooms on toast, which brought out the earthiness of the wine but totally over powered the appetizer choice. Would buy again just based on price point.

Easily the worst wine I've had this year. Confected with a hint of mercaptans. Truly awful.
