Jacob's Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2009, Coonawarra, South Australia
Cabernet Sauvignon

$16.95 (91751)
Tasting Note clear ruby red; ripe red berries with soft vanilla and light spice notes; full bodied; black cherry flavour with soft tannins in a medium length finish Serving Suggestion drink now with rare roast beef or cellar for 2 to 3 yearsCritic Reviews (2)
Set this aside for about three years, at which point you will be even more pleased with yourself that you only paid...
This is a very serious cabernet at a very reasonable price. I suggest you grab a dozen and enjoy over the next 4-5...

What a beautiful, if somewhat atypical cab. Aromas of blackcurrent, mint/menthol and eucalyptus with a nice fresh woodsy note (cedar, pencil shavings). A lot going on on the nose for $17. The palate is firm, sour cherry and mint tea with oak playing subtly in the background. In Jan 2013, the tannins still show a little bit of grit, but the finish is long and layered and integrated. I wouldn't guess this an ozzie cab on a blind tasting, but it's delicious nonetheless.

The 2009 Jacob's Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is medium bodied, fruity to INTEGRATED wine, with nice aromas of sweet cherry + vanilla and thyme on the nose and blackberry and bilberry on the palate. It is off balance: slightly acidic, with refined tannins (decant for 1 hour plus) and a medium to long finish with noticeable fizzyness that lasts for the first hour. Drink now or hold standing up (screw cap) for short term. My impression: NOTHING SPECIAL (at first) to NICE, 88 pts - not a recommended wine. Tasted Nov/11.

I am not feeling the 91 points, but a pleasant Cab Sauv on sale at the $15 mark. A little more subtle than I was expecting and/or hoping. May not have been a good match to my steak.
A berry drive wine with some spice, but lacking in complexity and is both slightly acidic and sweet - almost immature. A but a decent wine, but overpriced.
Tasted April, 2012.
Not as exciting as I hoped but probably worth the price. Jan 2013
nice wine but a little light and boring - but well made.

Nothing special more like a simple house wine . Not sure about 91 points
Disappointing overall - I bought this based on the LCBO Wine Style system (they said this was "Full bodied and smooth"), and I found it to the complete opposite. It's fairly light (medium bodied is a stretch), and the tannins on the finish are a little bit much for me to consider 'smooth'.
