This has a classy, new retro label but I am more delighted to see this called syrah not shiraz, as the peppery, meaty, black cherry flavours are much more in keeping with French styling despite a softness and sweetness you expect to find in shiraz. It’s mediumfull bodied, initially fleshy and smooth with a smoky finish, considerable tannin and alcohol. Very good length and very good value. Drink over the next three years. Tasted March 2011. Good value crowd pleaser. New world, fruit forward, good concentration of fruit, if bordering on over-extracted. Good balance, full bodied, spicy, slightly smokey. Maybe a bit too sweet but balanced by ripe tannin. Nothing particularly complex but a good all-round red wine.
