Château De Fontenelles Cuvée Notre Dame 2008, Ac Corbières
Blend

Languedoc Roussillon (Midi), France
$13.95 (106518)
It’s not surprising this wine won a Gold Medal at the 2009 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. It’s that good. Brimming with a wide range of aromas, including lifted blackberry, cured meat, pipe tobacco and anise. Dry, lush, rich, spicy and fruity with balancing acids and velvety tannins. Medium-full bodied with a long, lingering finish. A top-notch wine made mostly with Syrah. Enjoy it tonight with an array of meats from grilled steaks to osso buco. (VINTAGES panel, April 2010)

Nice nose: blueberry, herbs.
Full bodied, lots of flavour: Tangy earthy-fruity currant and blackberry, herbal/licorice, smoke. Tastes like a Rhone wine! Good balance, lot's going on.
I liked this, Great value.
beautiful colour, well balanced, and full bodied
Very deeply coloured. On the nose, some spice and dark berries, but dominating is an overwhelming funk and alcohol. On the palate, the initial sense is a dense, deep wine but then that funk hits and very alcoholic. I suppose that some may say that this funk is terroir, but I call it a flaw. I usually love the wines of the south of France but this not nice. A shame, as this producer has impressed in the past. Perhaps an off bottle?
Tasted September 2011.
I'd agree with the positive reviews listed below (and above), but I found that the acidity wasn't well integrated and a little harsh on the way down. Could have been a slightly off bottle, or I just wasn't open to receiving the wine that day. But there was lots of good things going on with this wine.
