In the spirit of the elegant, earlier maturing 2005 vintage, the Ravera Barolo from Abbona is fully open, fragrant...

This is a very good buy in reasonably affordable Barolo, from a good vintage. It has all the expected, well...

Wonderfully floral fragrance, as one might expect from Nebbiolo. Initially a bit of sweet vanilla flavours from the oak (this sees 12months in 500L French oak before going into large barrels). but this quickly fades. More prominent after this is tart cherry fruit and note of earth, with the high acidity expected of Barolo. Tannin is still firm, so I'd suggestion holding off until 2015. Should keep through 2020 with ease. Tasted April 2013.

A nice fruity nose with a hint of spice. It seemed to have full body on the tongue which backed off to medium through a long, peppery finish. Somewhat tannic which has me thinking it might be even better a year or two from now. Tasted November 2010.

Starting to amber, but still quite deep and bright. First impression is of fruit, with dried flowers, followed by spice and cedar notes. Med bodied, with refined tannins and moderate complexity. A modern style of nebbiolo; more depth would have been nice.
