Made with the same grape varieties used in Port, this dry red is filled with upfront fruit aromas of black plum, figs, dried fruits, blueberry, dark chocolate and a whiff of tar. It bursts on the palate with intense ripe fruit flavours, which are well balanced by supportive mild tannins. The finish is impressively long and features enough structure to suggest this beauty will drink very well over the next three years. A delight to serve with charcuterie.

Deep ruby in colour with a pinkish rim. Youthful nose of black and blueberry, hint of violets and oak. The midweight palate is tart and has smooth tannins. Flavours of sour cherry, blackberry. Medium length. Feb 2011.

Tank-aged (not a stick of wood anywhere!), this is a fresh, vibrant red with lots of ripe fruit and decent structure. Aromatically, just a shade closed at the moment, so a year more in bottle wouldn't hurt, but delicious drinking now as well. Outstanding value at $15. My, how I wish more wines in this price range were this good!
