After several years working in the Vancouver wine business the wine bug had found a permanent home in Alan. The jump into starting a winery all came down to a 10 day tour of the Okanagan Valley, camping out of the back of an MGB roadster with his Terrier Scruffy. Casually touring properties quickly turned serious and within a few months the business plan was coming together. In developing our plans, it quickly became clear that the business environment was not conducive to small start-up wineries unless the people at the helm were very well funded. Recognizing this, we struck out to fundamentally change the operating environment for small to medium wineries with the launch of Alto Wine Group, offering a range of production services to help improve the financial viability of the little guys. This also allowed us to pursue our personal wine brand. From day one this has been very much a family operation with friends and family working hard to help get us off the ground.
